About David C. Carter

David Clinton Carter was born and raised in the Buffalo New York area and graduated from the Park School at Buffalo. In 1968 he enrolled in the University of Vermont and graduated in 1972. After completing law school at Gonzaga University in Spokane Washington, he returned to Vermont.
Admitted to practice law on October 4, 1977 he worked for the State of Vermont in the Child Support Office for over 3 years, before going into private practice in July 1981.
David C. Carter has been very committed to serving his community beginning with 8 years on rescue squads as an Emergency Medical Technician, 34 years on the Bolton Valley Ski Patrol as a senior National Ski Patroller, 29 years in Rotary including being a charter member of the Grand Isle Rotary Club, a member of the Colchester-Milton Rotary Club, and as a team leader of a 5 person Group Study Exchange Team that spent a month in India in 2004. He has also served as a board member and president of the Vermont Association for the Blind (9years), the Vermont affiliate American Diabetes Association (6years), Champlain Islands Chamber of Commerce (6 years), Franklin-Grand Isle United Way (12 years), Champlain Island Parent Child Center (current) and he is a member of the Sons of the American Revolution.
David has served as acting Judge in Vermont District Court, Family Court, Child Support Court and Traffic Court. David has also been a Justice of the Peace for over 15 years and officiated over more than 3 dozen weddings.
In 2011, the Vermont Bar Association named David the “Pro-Bono Lawyer of the Year” for his extensive volunteer work. In March 2011 he was also elected to serve as a member of the Vermont Bar Association Board of Managers.

David and his wife Barbara have lived in South Hero since 1984 where they raised their 2 daughters, Erin and Leslie.
